What is Myofascial Release Therapy?
Myofascial Release Therapy is a type of bodywork that utilises hands-on healing, making it appropriate for a range of different people and health conditions.
The term combines “myo”, meaning muscle, with “fascial”, which refers to the body’s fascia system. Fascia is a sheath-like structure surrounding all muscles and their attached tendons and ligaments. When we experience an injury, have long-term postural issues or suffer chronic pain, this puts pressure on the fascia system, causing adhesions – or scar tissue – to form. These adhesions will prevent the muscle from functioning correctly, causing spasms, tightness, restriction and – ultimately – more pain.
Myofascial Release Therapy incorporates deep-tissue massage, opening up the fascial layers to improve your range of motion, flexibility, balance and posture – making it a valuable supporting therapy to any on-going chiropractic treatment.
